HARRIS Resort Waterfront Batam – Not My Type of Paradise
Having been to Holiday Inn Resort Batam, we decided that for our next trip we could probably try HARRIS Resort Waterfront Batam just ‘cos we think it has so much more activities we can do there. So off we went to make a reservation with them during the Chinese New Year period since we can’t go for any house visiting this year. Σ(￣。￣ﾉ)ﾉ
The whole process from the ferry to the custom and to the resort is basically the same as what I have mentioned in my blog entry on Holiday Inn Resort Batam. The ferry was just as crowded and messy at the Harbourfront Ferry Terminal since it seems like many are also not celebrating Chinese New Year in Singapore. The custom was just as slooooooooooooooooooooooooooow as one year back but since we have already expected it, we just took it easy but not when there were kids running and screaming around the area!!! It drove both of us crazy and we had to bear with it for the whole 30 – 45 minutes! ٩(๑`^´๑)۶
So after the unbearable noise pollution, we finally cleared the custom and head out to wait for the shuttle bus. Yes, as mentioned, everything is pretty much the same as Holiday Inn Resort Batam. （ ´ ω ` ）As we alighted, we were greeted with staff dancing to music and were given this information pack which consists of a map of HARRIS Resort Waterfront Batam and Batam itself so you can plan where to go. Not forgetting the welcome drink and wet towel as well! Service was just as great. The whole check-in process was smooth as well. But unlike Holiday Inn Resort Batam, we weren’t able to get our keys to our room yet as it was not 2PM yet. Not sure is it ‘cos it was the holiday season but oh well, we decided to deposit our luggages with them and went to the HARRIS Cafe to have our lunch.
Seems like the cafe is pretty empty for lunch time and we opted for their buffet lunch though to be honest, the spread wasn’t fantastic. The most yummy item was actually their chicken wing and erm… Cracker with their free flow belachan (shrimp paste) at the buffet counter. We should have gone for ala carte instead as we realised later that their pizza was fabtabulous! And we also realised that the staff at HARRIS Cafe loves to clear our table for no good reason. Our bags were obviously still placed at our seat but twice we came back, the first time Feng’s utensils were gone and were not replaced with a new set, the second time all the plates, utensils and even our iced water were gone! Ended up Feng got to tell them before they brought us our new set of utensils and drinks AGAIN. Just. Plain. Weird. I don’t know to call that efficiency or just too free. Oh wellz.
Since it was nearing 2PM when we finished our lunch, we headed back to the reception to get our keys for check-in. Was told that it will only be ready in another 10 – 15 minutes so we collected our keys and waited a while in the lobby before heading to our rooms. No, we were not pointed in the direction that we should take to reach our room and no, we were not informed that the room was ready for us to head up. We just decided probably we can head up now then. That’s it. And no, I am not saying their service is bad. Their service was the best thing they had there!
So yes, the room was ready (I assume) when we reached. And here’s some photos to share! Do note this post will probably be full of words ‘cos I honestly have no idea why I can’t be bothered to take too many photos. Haha!
As we were there on 1st February, so thank goodness all the F&B Outlets were opened for us to dine in. We however did not were not forced to join in the Chinese New Year Gala Dinner, so that was good since many other places will expect the guests to join in the various Gala Dinner during those special occasion such as Christmas and New Year.
Nice and bright colors were seen around the room since those were HARRIS Resort Waterfront Batam’s main corporate colors. One pretty amazing thing we found out was that there is not even a single item in the mini bar. Nil. Zilch. Zero. Like what?! Hahaha! Thank goodness for the small convenience store they had in the resort so that we can get our snacks and drinks from there, at a cheaper rate than asking the resort to fill up the mini bar for you! *faint* (╯・Δ・╰)
So it’s Chinese New Year and we found these items placed at the bedside table. Quite a cute gesture I must say though we didn’t dare to eat them since we don’t know when they were made. Hahaha! Oops.
Off to the bathroom! Very basic items and surprise surprise again! No towels were found! Honestly, was this room really ready for us to check in?! And the bottles they used for the body gel and shampoo was totally difficult to use! It was not elastic means we can’t press it to get the body gel or shampoo out. We had to be really violent in shaking it to force anything out. It’s really OMG to want to use them during shower. Zzz. (๐•̆ ·̭ •̆๐)
View from our room! Probably one of the good things the resort has to offer, out of the many other negative things I want to say.
HARRIS Resort Waterfront Batam is pretty rundown. Much more than Holiday Inn Resort Batam. We saw this decaying (?) wood at the bathroom door frame. There is only ONE extra wall plug that we can use to charge our phones and what nots, and it was so far away!!! Beside the balcony door!! Why is it not even designed to have it beside the TV or even better, at the bedside table?! I just can’t accept that there’s only ONE wall plug. (°…°)？？？
And then there was the public area around the resort. Kids walked from the pool to the public area, i.e. the hotel lobby or the toilet, making everywhere so wet! The fact that I see the floor wet means that they weren’t able to keep it dry at all times, making it pretty dangerous for people to slip and fall. And honestly the toilet was ridiculously dirty and wet. We walked over to the new wing thinking that it was probably the old wing that things look so rundown. And surprise surprise! The other public toilet which was nearer to the new wing was just as ridiculous. The door was sort of broken, toilet paper holder was spoilt and the flush button for the toilet bowl was “broken” as well since you can only press half of it. As we were walking along the corridor for the new wing, we spotted really sad looking doors as well. ………( ˙-˙ )………。
Thank goodness we didn’t have our dinner in HARRIS that night ‘cos what I am about to tell you is just one of the most ridiculous thing I ever experience in a resort and I am really swearing off this place like FOREVER. We had breakfast at the HARRIS Cafe the next day and when we came down, the cafe was already seriously crowded. We informed the reception of our room number and then they told us to head in. And surprise surprise again!!! We walked around finding ZERO EMPTY SEATS! How can you let your guests head in to the dining area for their breakfast when you have NO SEATS for them!? We had to walk around the whole dining area looking for seats and finally got one only when a group has left. I am not eating at a hawker center where I have to look for my own seats and if there were none, I got to wait. I am at a RESORT for goodness sake. No, this is not the worse. When we sat down, I noticed ants crawling under the glass panel that was put over the table. ANTS?! How can there be ants crawling around on the dining table?! I can understand if the resort is among the forest area and there are ants. But no! There should be NO ants on dining tables in THIS RESORT! I was so grossed out that I can’t wait to finish our breakfast and head back to our room. RIDICULOUS! ( *๑•̀д•́๑)」
Newly Added (16 March 2014): Forgot to add this one more ridiculous thing! After checking out, we waited for the shuttle bus and HARRIS Resort Waterfront Batam has two types of shuttle bus, one that is small and more cramp, the other one is wow-ing big. Well, we decided to take the wow-ing big shuttle bus ‘cos there was a lot of people checking out and we thought we will just hop on the bigger bus which was waiting at the front. And it was honestly OMG! The bus was like a SAUNA! The air-condition was hardly working and the seats were hot, even the metal in the bus was hot to the touch! Luckily I didn’t lean on it ‘cos I can’t imagine getting scarred by those hot metals! WTF man! How can they expect guests to take buses like this!? I had rather walk to ferry terminal than take that bus ‘cos I honestly think the outside is cooler that this sauna bus!
I think the best thing about this trip was actually the visit back to Holiday Inn Resort Batam for our 90-minute spa session and the dinner at the Delima Seafood Restaurant. Even at such a rundown looking place like Delima, I SPOT NO ANTS ON THE TABLE. Time to wake up, HARRIS Resort Waterfront Batam! And probably one of their saving grace was their great service and their fabtabulous pizza. But none of these is going to bring me back to HARRIS Resort Waterfront Batam ever again. Probably it is just me being less forgiving but honestly I leave it up to you to decide if you will go to HARRIS Resort Waterfront Batam for your stay.
Time to chill. Time to have one last happy photo to end this entry. If you will like another person’s point of view on HARRIS, kindly head over to read Feng’s blog entry! He also blogged about Delima as well. ( ๑´ỏ`๑)✧*｡･ﾟ
