Holiday Inn Resort Batam – Our New Land of Small Paradise (Part II)
Okay, I am back with Part 2 as promised! And also as promised, it’s time to bring on the food! ٩( ˘ω˘ )و
So when we reached Batam, it was almost time for lunch. And since there really isn’t much around Batam and we didn’t really want to head out too far since we are having our spa session at 4PM, we decided to dine in. And being lazy asses, we decided to get room service! Yes, room service so early in the day. ε=(/^^)/～♪
Feng order Nasi Bakar while I had Batam Favourite Ayam Penyet. Who doesn’t love some Ayam Penyet!? Forgetting how Ayam Penyet was supposed to taste like, it was definitely a great big pleasure to bite into the nice yummy deep fried marinated spring chicken that was served on the plate! But the rice here definitely sux. At least by our standard it was way too soft.
We also can’t get used to the taste of the bean cake. Just taste a bit too heavy for our liking. (/. .\)
Onwards! More food later but let’s move on to the lovely lovely lovely ABSOLUTELY LOVELY spa session we had at Tea Tree Spa.
We came here not expecting anything even though a lot of people has commented that it was one of the best spa they had in Batam and at a reasonable price for the number of hours. We had a 90-minute Balinese massage and it was so good that it can make you fall asleep amidst the soothing spa music. Having been pampered by Alila, Cha-Am (now re-branded as Hotel de la Paix Cha-Am) and then the yet-to-be-blogged-about Alila Villas Uluwatu, I can say our standard has grown pretty high. So when I said the spa at Tea Tree Spa is ABSOLUTELY LOVELY, trust me, it really is. o(♡´▽`♡)o
So after our lovely spa session, it was time to head back to our room and… STONE and RELAX! As usual, lazy bums don’t like to head out far and we really didn’t want to dine at the expensive in-house restaurants, we decided to erm… Order room service again! (o´ϖ`o)♬
I honestly think we over-indulge a bit considering the amount of food we had ordered. Hahaha! So there’s a Mie Goreng, Satay Ayam, Deep Fried Calamari Rings and Cheese Cake with Chocolate Ice Cream.
Am not a big fan of Mie Goreng in Indonesia so I guess it probably only satisfy Feng more than me. Haha! Satay was not too bad but I still think Singapore ones are nicer. Picky picky me! Calamari Rings were way too chewy and overly fried so not that great as an appetizer dish. And finally the truly funky cheese cake that came with sugar work! A really tough sugar work so we didn’t really get to eat it much. And kiwi?! Hahaha! Holiday Inn sure has a very different concept for their cheesecake. (+▽+;)
So a nice fulfilling dinner after a nice massage and then a nice comfortable bed, we dozed off and got up at around 2AM to wash up. Then came the craving for supper and we called for room service AGAIN! Haha! We are surely testing their room service a lot. It was great to know that their response was pretty timely and we got our food within the amount of time mentioned. So what’s for supper? The most delicious item from Holiday Inn Resort Batam is…
Fried Chicken Wing!!!! Absolutely yummy fried chicken wing that we didn’t get to enjoy again this year when we came back to Batam ‘cos we were staying at another resort. Sad max. (இ﹏இ`｡)
The following day we checked out early and took a shuttle bus to Nagoya Hill Shopping Mall. Honest opinion? It’s really nothing to shout about. Super boring place which I don’t understand why people will want to come here except for A&W, which sadly didn’t have curly fries that day ‘cos they ran out of it!!!! *rawrz* The only fantastic thing was probably the cheap household products at the hypermart and the yummy popcorn, best popcorn we ever had (?). Hahaha! I realized a lot of people bought J.Co donuts as well. Wonder why. (´∵`)
And we ate at BFC. Best Fried Chicken. A combination of KFC and A&W since they serve curly fries. And probably a bit of Indonesian food as well. Cool place. Haha! But I sure am not used to people being able to smoke indoors!!! Imagine the group of people sitting behind us was smoking away and not forgetting the whole shopping complex smell of cigarette smoke as well, all trapped within the aircon building. Zzz.
So after that we head back to Holiday Inn, collected our luggage and wait for our shuttle bus to Batam Waterfront Ferry Terminal. I have to say the ferry terminal experience was pretty amazing. We went up to the second floor to wait for the doors to open for the custom check-in. So everyone was seated at first. Out of nowhere, you realised everyone will frantically stand up and started queuing. Yes, out of nowhere since there was no sign no nothing that says it’s time to check in! So thinking that it was probably time to check in and we have to grab good seats, we joined in the queue. We ended up waiting for another good long 15 – 20 minutes, while standing. Zzz. So lesson learnt. (｡•́︿•̀｡)
Well, I guess that is the end of my experience at Holiday Inn Resort Batam. I will say the resort itself has already aged quite a bit and probably is time for them to do some touch up to make it look new again. But Holiday Inn Resort Batam is nothing compared to how much worse Harris Resort Waterfront Batam is. We just visited it during this Chinese New Year and honestly, I wouldn’t be going back there again. I will leave that to another blog entry. Besides the aging facade, Holiday Inn Resort Batam has excelled in many other ways, such as their great service with their friendly and knowledgeable staff, the prompt room service and yummy room service food and not forgetting the SUPERB spa session at the Tea Tree Spa. Holiday Inn Resort Batam definitely wins hands down as compared to Harris Resort Waterfront Batam. Paying just a bit more can give me such great overall experience, I seriously don’t mind at all! We will definitely be back there again! Already missing the massage even though we just had it one month back. Before I *poof*, if you are interested to know more details such as the cost and such of everything that we did, do drop by Feng’s blog to grab those information! (๑>◡<๑)♡
